Hate & Love
This short animation piece is based on an answer of the writer Tatiana Tibuleac (El verano en que mi madre tuvo los ojos verdes, El jardín de vidrio) in conversation with Paula Bonet (La Anguila) in the context of La noche de los libros de Málaga. They discuss about the recently published novel of the moldovan writer (The Glass Garden) and also the previous one. Paula asks her about hate and love, and whether she thinks it is necessary to have such a strong hate at the beginning of the book, so that the love that is growing little by little, ends up being so strong, so intense. Tatiana thinks. Perhaps she still listens to the simultaneous translation because she seems to have a very clear answer.“I find hate a feeling which is closer to love. Because you can’t hate everyone. You can’t hate no-matter-who. Hate takes a very intimate relationship. You love someone, but you can’t hate just anyone. When you hate someone, you invest in this a lot. Just think about the persons you hate most in your life, and think how much time does it take. And how close he should be to you, because that person you hate is always with you. He never lets you go. Because hate is like love: it takes all the time.”
And starting on from this premise, idea, speech, last sentence; it is built, little by little, like love in Tatiana's book, a short audiovisual piece that talks about hate and love and their intimate relationship. For this purpose, it is used the opening fragment of one of the most famous ballet pieces by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, Romeo and Juliet, inspired also by Shakespeare's famous play. The chosen piece is Opus 64 or Dance of the Knights, which stands out for its enormous strength, energy, rage, passion, vitality, fury, and is perfectly suited to the project for all this as well as for the theme, title and content of the work itself.
